Our Influencer of the Week is an inspiration in many senses. She’s a fantastic mother to two young boys, a talented writer, and a fitness enthusiast who’s chronicling her newly found love of surfing at her home on the web. Luckily for us, she slowed down long enough to chat for a few minutes. ”Wave” {Get it? Wave?} hi to Christine of Love, Life, Surf!
Your blog is a place readers go to for inspiration. What inspires you to keep at it?
Thank you! It’s funny because I never considered myself an athlete or that into fitness when I was younger. However, health and fitness has become a core part of who I am as a woman, wife, mother, sister and friend. Fitness is something that nourishes my soul. It not only helps me build physical strength, but also mental strength to handle whatever challenges life throws at me.
My main motivation to be fit is my children. I want to experience life with them – to run alongside them when they first start riding a bike, see their eyes widen at the top of a mountain, do cartwheels in the grass, swim and surf in the ocean – and to watch them grow up. I want to set a good example for them so they will lead active and healthy lives too.
What’s your favorite post that you’ve written during the past year?
One of my favorite posts that I’ve written in the past year is from January. Only a few weeks into the New Year, I started questioning my goals and intentions for the New Year and asking myself, “Am I a hypocrite?” It’s about dealing with negative emotions and how to move beyond these feelings. I keep coming back to this post because it sums up many of the challenges and thoughts that I’ve had this year and it’s a reminder to be compassionate with myself.
Tell us three things that not many people know about you.
That’s a tough one! I feel like I’ve become an open book since I’ve started blogging, sharing random things about myself as well as my life in numbers.
Here are some other nuggets that many people may not know:
- My family nickname is Say which means small in Cantonese. My older sister gave me that name because I am the youngest in the family.
- I’m a watermelon hoarder. I love watermelon and could pretty much eat an entire one by myself.
- I am starting a yoga teacher training course in the fall. I’m really excited about this opportunity to teach and share yoga with more people.
Any blogging crushes you’d like to share with us? We won’t tell anyone…except for our entire readership.
I have so many blogging crushes! I think that the best part of blogging is encountering such incredible words and people on a daily basis. These are just a few of the women who inspire me everyday through their writing, stories and insights.

Why and how do you use Sverve?
What has really surprised me about Sverve, in a very good way, is that it is such a great community of learners. There is a willingness among members to help each other so that we all do what we do better, particularly in the realm of blogging, social media and writing. I’ve come across so many resources that I would not have come across on my own. Sverve has become my go-to source for great tips and resources.
Say hey to Christine in a comment, check her out on Sverve, and then go pay her a visit at Love, Life, Surf!
And to top it all off, you’re in HAWAII?? Good on you…enjoy your vacation…and congratulations!
