More Twitter Followers

Would you like to gain more Twitter followers?

Are you wondering how to use Twitter to connect with more like-minded brands and bloggers?

If so, following these ten simple steps can get you well on your way to more followers and more influence on Twitter.

10 Steps To More Followers on Twitter

Step #1: Start following people and brands you want to connect with. This may seem like a no-brainer, but some people wait for others to follow them first. Don’t do this. You can gain more followers in a shorter amount of time by following people and brands that you admire — before they follow you. Follow them first, so that they know you exist and can follow you back.

Step #2: Look up hashtags that resonate with you and your blog readers, then start following people that are tweeting with those hashtags. I love doing this on my phone. If I’m stuck in line somewhere or have some downtime, I hop on Twitter through my phone and look up certain hashtags. Then I’ll start following others who are tweeting with those hashtags. Try doing this, and you might be surprised at how quickly your followers increase.

Step #3: Use online tools like Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule tweets throughout the day and maintain a presence on Twitter, even when you’re not sitting at your computer. Using tools like these allows you to tweet and appear to be ‘present’ on Twitter, although really, you’re offline working or spending time with your family. People will see your fabulous tweets throughout the day and perhaps retweet to their followers and you’ll gain new ones.

Step #4: Start a Triberr group where you and fellow bloggers can find each other’s content quickly and easily to share it with followers. I’m in a Triberr group with fellow bloggers, and it’s wonderful. I simply log in and share their engaging posts with my followers, and they share my posts with their followers. This shows other people (and brands) that you can create awesome shareable content that others like and will engage with.

Step #5: Take every opportunity to share your Tweets with others. Are you in any Facebook groups with fellow bloggers? Is there a weekly thread where you can share a post to tweet or perhaps a tweet that you’d like them to retweet? If you’re in a group like this anywhere online, be sure to take advantage of every opportunity to have a fellow blogger tweet out some of your terrific content. You’re sure to gain new followers by doing this.

Step #6: Attend Twitter parties. Oh, man. I LOVE Twitter parties! You may not have time to attend a party every week, but perhaps you could attend a Twitter party twice a month. Simply find a party that interests you, and RSVP for that party. Show up for the party, tweet, answer questions, engage other partygoers, and have fun! Prizes are almost always involved, too, so you might just win something while you’re at it. While you’re at the party, start following fellow partygoers, who are obviously interested in the some of the same things that you are. Twee Parties is a great resource for finding a Twitter party that’s talking about something you’re interested in.

Step #7: Follow brands on Twitter and tag them in your tweets. I already mentioned that you should follow brands that you love, but take it a step further and tag them in your tweets. This way, they’ll know you’re talking about them (in a positive way) and be more likely to follow you back.

Step #8: Run giveaways. When you run a giveaway on your blog, you can allow your readers a bonus entry if they follow you on Twitter. You can also give readers an extra entry if they tweet about the giveaway. Giveaways are a great way to increase your Twitter followers.

Step #9: Post savvy tweets and recycle old tweets. Don’t simply post links on Twitter. Post interesting content that’ll engage your followers and encourage retweets. Also, put some of your best tweets in another location, perhaps a Google doc. Then go back to those tweets every now and then and recycle them. You may or may not need to freshen up the wording, but then tweet those awesome 140 characters out to your followers again.

Step #10: Post pictures and be authentic. If you’re sharing a picture on Instagram, why not share it on Twitter while you’re at it? This is a great way to share fun content and grow your followers. Above all, be authentic. Be you, and be real with your audience. People love authenticity, and they naturally want to follow when they see someone being real.

Good to know that you like Triberr. I know a little about it but haven’t thoroughly checked it out. Do you find that the tribes you build on it are authentic? Or is it more of an “agreement to share content” arrangement?

I’ve found that stalking {um, perusing} lists of who my Tweeps follow is a great way to meet like-minded folks on Twitter. I’ll often find that there are friends who I assumed was following, but actually wasn’t. :)

Hi Sue, I think my Triberr tribe is very authentic, and I visit every single post that I share. I never simply tweet a post just because that person is in my Tribe. I visit their blog first, and then if I find that post helpful or useful to my followers, I’ll share it on Twitter. :)

You know why I like this list? It is what to do on Twitter and not another what NOT to do list – I get so tired of those :)

Thank you, Poppy! I try to offer helpful tips on what to DO to grow your social media followers. I find those other lists (on what not to do) humorous, but not always helpful. :)
