Influencer of the Week – Jenna LaFevor

Today Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof Blog is with us! Read further for her blogging tips and her beautiful posts on her home tour!

How did you being blogging?

I started my blog because of my passion for interior design and home projects. Grunt Labor and I had recently purchased a foreclosure and were working on it constantly and I thought it would be fun to blog about it. Technically, I began blogging in fall of 2011, but I got pregnant and tired…really tired and succumbed to lots of naps. I blogged sporadically. In January of 2013, I decided I was going to really give blogging a go and got into a steady routine of posting.

What are you preferred blogging topics?

Anything home – except for food. I love to cook and I’m not too shabby at it, but I just don’t know that I could get those perfect food photographs. I love writing about DIY projects, crafts, and anything about home decorating. I especially love sharing quick and frugal projects that have big impact – like my new Fifteen on Friday series – projects that cost $15 or less and take 15 minutes or less. I am also a sucker for a good story, so I try to tell a story with as many of my posts as possible.

What are your three favorite blog posts ?

My home tour I did this past summer would have to be one for sure. It was the most viewed post of 2013 and the first time I had put all of my home into one post. People’s comments floored me and totally made my day. My daughter’s blue and pink 1st birthday party is another one. I was determined to make as much as possible for the party to save money and make it personal. I also wrote about a table makeover last year where I fixed the top with wrapping paper.  I didn’t think much about it when I posted it, but people loved it and it was another most viewed post last year.

What are you up to when not blogging?

I’m supposed to be doing something else besides blogging? Does thinking about blogging count as something else? Haha. I’m kidding. Grunt Labor is a football and basketball coach, so we spend lots of time on basketball courts and football fields. I’m typically the one chasing the kid around and trying to convince her that they really don’t need her 1 1/2 year old expertise on the court. I’m the one too who is running back and forth to the concession stand for Powerade refuels for the boys. I’m also a huge fan of good music, cheap beer, and my front porch. The three make a great combination when nothing else is happening.

What are your tips for balancing family life and blogging?

I don’t really know that I have any tips. Honestly, most of the time, I’m flying by the seat of my pants. I blog when Grunt Labor goes to work and the kid is still sleeping and when she goes to preschool a couple days a week. I steal some time at night, but I just do it when I can and realize that family always comes first.

Why and how do you use Sverve?

I use Sverve as a way to connect with brands and as social media. Anytime I want to share a new post, I put it on my profile. I have also worked with brands on sponsored posts through Sverve which have been fun.

Do you have any tips for your success on Sverve?

Like I said in the last question, anytime you write something new that you want to share with people, add it to your Sverve account. Sverve is great about sharing links on your profile!

Can you share any blogging tips that have really helped you?

I actually wrote a series about how to grow your blog including basic blogging info, Pinterest tips, making money with your blog and more. I wrote it as I was learning new things in hopes of helping other beginner bloggers. They are very useful tips for beginners. The series can be found here

What do you love most about blogging?

I love blogging because it allows me to do what I truly love. When I went to college, I originally wanted to major in Interior Design. Life happened and I took the advice of others when I shouldn’t have, and I graduated with a teaching degree. My heart was always with Interior Design though. Blogging has allowed me to do what I love and what I have always wanted to do. And the icing on the cake is that I have met some amazing women through blogging. One of my best friends, Jamie  is a fellow blogger. She lives 2,000+ miles away from me and we’ve never been to each other’s houses, but I know that she will understand better than anyone else sometimes exactly what I’m going through whether its blogging or just life.
