We had a fun twitter chat with moms about the role of extracurricular activities in their kids lives. I am a big believer in extracurricular activities and feel if you can find an activity that your child enjoys it can do many things for them such as; build their self-esteem, self-confidence, self-respect, and it gives them pride in their accomplishments. Moms shared many great thoughts and here are a few that captured the essence of our conversation.
Most moms agreed that extracurricular activities are important to build kids’ personality, and give them an opportunity to find their interests and bond with parents and others. Also, many moms thought it provides kids an outlet for healthy activities.

On the question of leaving some activity midway, while most moms said they wouldn’t like to enforce an activity on their kids expecially if kid doesn’t like it. There was a great point made to teach kids the importance of finishing tasks they start.

The thought of having kids decide what they like was profound. It seems many mothers want their kids to make this decision for themselves. It is always a challenge to strike a balance between school and extra curricular activities but certainly worth it!
